| Taiko literally means
"drum" in Japanese. It has played many roles throughout
Japanese history, such as a musical accompaniment to North
dramas and Kabuki theatre, a method of communication between
villages, a way to keep the beat for festival dancing, and
more recently as the featured instrument in high energy,
powerful group performances.
The practice of taiko is a unique
combination of rhythmic drumming, aerobic movement, and
dance choreography suitable for all ages. It's a great
alternative for music, fitness, and dance enthusiasts
